It was 2004, and big things were happening across the world.
– Facebook is launched from Mark Zuckerberg’s Harvard dorm room.
– NASA’s Opportunity Rover lands on the surface of Mars.
And a little closer to home?
– Shrek the Sheep is finally shorn live on TV after avoiding the sheers for six years.
– And Urban Homes is born from humble beginnings from Daniel Klinkenberg’s garage and home office.
In celebration of turning 20 in 2024, we thought we would take a little trip down memory lane and reminisce about one of, if not the very first, foray into the world of property development for Urban Homes.
The image shown is one of our first-ever renovation projects which all the way back in 2004 helped to kick-start the Urban journey.
This project, on Dey Street in Hamilton, opposite the Marist Rugby club, was project managed, and built by Daniel himself alongside a team of apprentices and of course, Max the dog.
This was one of Urban’s own development projects, and the work that was carried out consisted of subdividing the site, renovating the existing home, and then relocating a second home onto the site and renovating that also.
Urban Homes has been building homes across the Waikato, Coromandel and South Auckland for the last two decades and it is incredible to see how far we have come. A lot has changed at Urban since this Dey Street project.
With the challenges we have faced over the years, the lessons learnt, and the triumphs celebrated when turning hundreds of client visions into reality, Urban has evolved and grown to become the Waikato’s most awarded Master Builder. With so much achieved over the last 20 years, we don’t intend on stopping anytime soon.
